Claude comes to PowerPoint: build a professional corporate deck in 7 minutes, with no design and no code
Eighteen months ago, putting together a 30-slide deck for a corporate workshop was a 3-to-4-hour job minimum: write the text in Word, move it into PowerPoint, fix the fonts, swap the images, and discover at the end that the client wants a different version. That changes now. Anthropic brought Claude for PowerPoint to general availability in May 2026, and it changes how organizations build decks in Microsoft 365.
Is this just another AI add-in, or is something different here?
This isn't another chat that produces a separate HTML or PDF. It is an add-in that sits inside PowerPoint itself, sees your Slide Master (the deck's main template), understands your brand's colors and fonts, and edits the slides directly in the .pptx file. Everything it produces stays editable, changeable, and in native PowerPoint format, not a static image of a slide.
The key difference from the February 2026 announcement is that the tool has now been released officially to all users (not just a closed trial group). That means official Anthropic support, a normal install through the Microsoft Add-ins store, and standard enterprise deployment through the Microsoft 365 Admin Center.
How does it work in practice?
The process is simple. Open PowerPoint on your computer, open the Claude panel at the side, and write what you want in plain language. A real example: "Build me a 12-slide deck for an investment meeting, base it on my startup template, add an opening slide, problem, solution, market, business model, team, and targets." Claude reads the existing template, keeps the brand language, and returns 12 complete slides in under 5 minutes. You do the final editing yourself, directly in PowerPoint, like any other file.
How do you install the add-in? Step by step
- Open PowerPoint on your computer (Mac or Windows). The add-in works only on the desktop version of Microsoft 365, not the web version.
- In PowerPoint's top toolbar click Home and then Add-ins (or alternatively Insert then Get Add-ins). In the window that opens, search for "Claude by Anthropic".
- Click Add. The add-in appears in the toolbar and the panel opens at the side of the screen.
- Connect your Claude account. You need a Claude Pro subscription (the same price as ChatGPT Plus), or a Max, Team, or Enterprise plan.
- Done. From now on you can ask Claude to build, edit, or reorder slides directly in the file.
For organizations on Microsoft 365 Enterprise: an organization-wide install is done through the Microsoft 365 Admin Center. Go to Settings, then Integrated Apps, then Add-ins. Search for Claude by Anthropic in PowerPointand deploy it to the user group you want. Anthropic's official guide is here.
How is this different from our Electric Presentation skill?
Good question, and the two tools complement each other. Our Electric Presentation skill builds a standalone HTML file, striking and polished, that works with no additional software. It's perfect for presenting at events, sales decks, or decks you want to share as a link or publish to a site.
Claude for PowerPointis something else. It's aimed at organizations that already live in PowerPoint, on approved brand templates, and on a workflow spanning PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook and Word in Microsoft 365. If your client asks for a .pptx file at the end, Claude for PowerPoint is the tool. If they want a link or a PDF, Electric Presentation wins.
What's the difference between Claude, ChatGPT and Copilot inside Office?
Three platforms are now moving into the same space, but with different approaches. Here's the short, honest comparison, correct as of May 2026:
| Feature | Claude for PowerPoint | ChatGPT for Excel | Microsoft 365 Copilot |
|---|---|---|---|
| Built into the file | Yes, side panel | Excel and Sheets only | Yes, across Office |
| Respects Slide Master | Yes, advanced | Not applicable | Yes |
| Native, editable charts | Yes | Yes (Excel) | Yes |
| Hebrew support | Full | Full | Full |
| Base cost | $20 Pro / $25 Team | $20 Plus | $30 per employee |
The choice depends on what you already use. For anyone working with Claude day to day, Claude for PowerPoint is a natural and inexpensive extension. For anyone already paying for Microsoft 365 Copilot, that gives coverage in Word and Outlook too. ChatGPT for Excel has the advantage of also working in Google Sheets.
Example workflow: building a whole deck in minutes
Take a typical scenario: preparing a deck for an AI workshop for marketing staff at a mid-sized organization. A short brief to Claude might look like this: "Build a 15-slide deck. Base it on my Slide Master. Opening slide, who I am, what AI is today, 5 practical tools, hands-on session, summary and questions." Within a few minutes the add-in returns a complete deck, including native PowerPoint charts and shapes that match the Slide Master. After that you can ask for targeted fixes: "Change slide 6 to a bulleted list instead of a paragraph", "Swap the image on slide 9 for a minimalist illustration". Each action is performed directly in the file, without opening a new one or losing formatting.
That changes the economics. A deck that until now took 3 hours of a freelance designer's time can be produced with around 30 minutes of human corrections. For an organization producing dozens of decks a month, that's tens of hours and thousands of shekels saved on outsourced design.
How do you ask well? Three prompts that work
"Build a 10-slide deck for a sales meeting with a retail chain. Topic: AI solutions for customer experience. Use the existing Slide Master.""Go through the existing slides and add a footer to each with the project name, date, and the logo in the corner.""Reorder the slides as follows: opening, problem, solution, social proof, business model, team, targets. Remove duplicate slides."
Frequently asked questions
Does it work in Hebrew RTL (right-to-left writing)?Yes, Claude supports fully Hebrew decks. It's worth stating it in the prompt, "the deck is in Hebrew, RTL, Heebo font", to make sure the output fits from the start.
Can I use this without a Microsoft 365 subscription? No. You need the desktop version of Microsoft 365 (not free) and at least a Claude Pro subscription (the same price as ChatGPT Plus).
Do the files stay with me or get sent to Anthropic? The file stays with you. Only the requests and responses go to Claude. Anthropic does not train models on your files, and you can disable the add-in at any moment from PowerPoint's Add-ins menu.
Is there a Google Slides version? Not yet. As of May 2026, the tool is exclusive to Microsoft 365 PowerPoint. In Google Slides you can use Gemini, or ChatGPT via the Google Sheets sidebar, and import the results.
Does this replace your Electric Presentation skill? No, the two complement each other. Electric is for standalone, beautiful HTML you share as a link; Claude for PowerPoint is for corporate PowerPoint with approved templates.
